On Friday May 5, 2012 there was a Super Moon, so I decided this baby was coming out that weekend. Saturday I helped Jeff in the yard--I mowed, he mulched--no baby. On Sunday, we decided to go for a walk. We walked approximately 3 miles--nothing. Later that afternoon I went grocery shopping and cooked dinner like normal. That evening, the second I turned off the TV for bed, I started having pains. I was unsure as to whether they were contractions, but they were about 7-8 minutes apart, and regardless, super uncomfortable. It hurt to lay down, so I got up and decided to do some housework. In the event that this was the real deal, I knew family members would want to come up and I didn't want my house to be a complete disaster.
Around 2:30 AM, they were getting closer--approximately 5 minutes apart so I decided it was time to wake Jeff up. When I told him I thought I was in labor, he sprung out of bed. It was the fastest I had ever seen him wake up. At that point, we decided to call the hospital. After describing my pains to the nurse, she was unsure as to whether I was in labor or not and told me to wait as long as possible at home, eat something, and call the doctor. I decided to take and shower and eat some cereal, but was only able to eat a bite. That was when I decided it was time to wake up my doctor. Upon calling, she said I better head to the hospital and she would meet me there. So we packed up some last minute things and headed for the 20 minute drive to Carthage Area Hospital. They contractions were starting to get a bit worse, and about every 3 minutes.
When we got to the hospital at about 3:30 AM, I learned that I was already 5-6 cm dilated, and indeed, in labor. At 4:00 AM, I was hooked up to an IV and by 6:00 AM, I got an epidural. For the next 6 hours, we just hung out. At about 1 PM, it was time to push. About 2 hours later, this little guy was born...
He weighed 7 lbs 13 ounces and was 21 inches long.
He has been at home for over a week now and we have been very busy feeding him because all this little one wants to do is sleep (which I think he gets from his father). We have been peed on, pooped on, and projectile spit-up on, but it's totally worth it! He is a precious little sweet baby angel!
I will hopefully post more soon!
Congratulations Erika & Jeff!! He is precious :) And you will be so glad that you wrote down everything about your L&D - soon enough it will be a blur.
